Brazilian Grand Prix: Webber Victory In Interlagos!

Nov 27, 2011

Just when you think the Formula One season couldn't get any better, Mark Webber wins his first grand prix of the year in Brazil at the season finale.

He was victorious here in 2009 and he repeated that feat - and bagged himself a fastest lap just for good measure - here today.

From P2 on the grid the Australian kept his nose to Vettel's tail and it looked like being a one-two and a German victory... until a problem in the gearbox region meant Seb losing speed and the lead to his team-mate on Lap 29.

After that, little fazed Mark, and the only thing which threatened Sebastian's place beside him on the final steps of the season was a resurgent Jenson Button who (looking outside our own camp) is a racer who has had a great year; indeed splitting our boys in the final drivers' reckoning.

It was a justifiably proud and satisfied Christian Horner who reflected on a great race for the drivers and a great season for the wider Red Bull Racing team and those associated with us.

He said: “To finish with a one-two is a fantastic way to end the year. The race was dominated by trying to manage the problem Sebastian had; but he adopted his driving technique and did an awesome job to get the car to the end. Mark was not far behind at the time and Sebastian conceded the lead. Thereafter Mark drove a fantastic race and had a very deserving victory to sign off what has been an unbelievable year. To have won 12 grands prix and defended both World Championships is fantastic and the timing’s right to thank every member of the team for all their hard work.”

Taking the Constructors' Trophy for us on the Interlagos podium was our head of strategy Will Courtenay - another vital member of the team and another worthy recipient of the champagne shower.

Right, 18 pole positions, 12 wins, 27 podiums and two world championships... what's next?

Well, before we totally leave 2011 behind there's the small matter of a triumphant home town return to Milton Keynes on December 10.

Do join us – it's going to be a lot of fun.
