Kolles: Drivers the main problem

Hispania team boss Colin Kolles believes that if they had more experienced drivers racing for them this season, their performance would have been drastically better.

In their maiden year in F1, the team finished 11th in the Constructors' race, relegating Virgin to the wooden spoon position on the basis of a countback of best results as none of the three new teams scored points.

Fellow new boys Lotus had experienced campaigners Jarno Trulli and Hekki Kovalainen piloting their cars while Virgin Racing had former Toyota driver Timo Glock and rookie Lucas di Grassi at the wheels of their machines.

In contrast, Hispania had a merry-go-round of drivers, with their original combination of rookies Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok at times making way for Sakon Yamamoto and Christian Klien. Of the four, Klien was the only driver who had raced in F1 before.

Kolles has now pointed to this as one of the major reasons why the team failed to impress this season.

"It was a difficult year but we were the most reliable new team," he explained.

"I think the only reason why we did not finish 10th is that teams like Lotus and Virgin had more experienced drivers during the whole season.

"I think that in testing we showed quite a good performance in relation to the other new teams."

Hispania have not confirmed either of their drivers of the 2011 season.
