Buddhists invited to join Buddhism Promotion Week

BANGKOK, 16 February 2011 (NNT) – All Buddhists are invited to practice dhamma and participate in the Buddhism Promotion Week, organized by the Ministry of Culture in conjunction with the Magha Puja Day on 18 February.

Culture Minister Nipit Intarasombat on Wednesday presided over the opening ceremony of the Buddhism Promotion Week, organized by the Department of Religious Affairs, Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University and related organizations.

The event is arranged to encourage Buddhists to practice dhamma for their own sake and as a tribute to His Majesty the King upon his 84th birthday anniversary this year. It will be held until 19 February 2011 at Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan.

The event features many activities such as alms giving, religious chanting, Buddhist proclamation, listening to sermon, triple circumambulation ceremony or wien-thien procession, group praying contest, dhamma quiz for youths and demonstrations of handicraft making on Buddhism-related themes.

Upon the upcoming Magha Puja Day, the minister also invited all Buddhists to take part in the ongoing Buddhism Promotion Week, as well as do good deeds and refrain from wrongdoings for the benefit of themselves and their families and a better society.
