Insignia’s new engine
Opel has announced it will replace the old aspirated 1.8-liter engine found on the Insignia, with a 1.4-liter turbo unit of 140 hp and 200 Nm.
The Germans seek to make Opel Insignia (Vauxhall Insignia) one of the most attractive products of medium segment. The Germans propose a new petrol engine, hidden under the body of the class D model. It’s about 1.4 liter turbo engine which currently equip younger brothers, Astra and Meriva.
The new four-cylinder engine will replace the old 1.8-liter 16-valve unit, normally aspirated. Although it offers the same 140 horsepower, the new 1.4-liter is superior to its predecessor at the torque chapter. The difference is 15 Nm torque, the turbo unit providing 200 Nm much earlier, since the 1850 rotations.
With the new engine, the new Opel Insignia ecoFLEX will also receive start-stop system developed in Opel workshops at Rüsselsheim. Thanks to a smaller cylinder and the new system that stops the engine at traffic lights, Insignia can record an emission rate of just 136 g/km (sedan) or 139 g/km (wagon version). The label qualifies as ecoFLEX, was inappropriate for the old version, which provided emissions of 179 g/km.
