Ford Focus ECOnetic – low consumption

Amsterdam International Motor Show (2011) will mark the debut of the most economical compact on the market. This is called Ford Focus ECOnetic and comes with a 1.6-liter diesel engine and 105 horsepower.

Ford officials announced that they would launch an ECOnetic version of Focus, which will have the lowest fuel consumption in the compact class. The model will debut at the Amsterdam Motor Show 2011 and will have an average consumption of 3.5 liters per cent. The new Focus ECOnetic comes with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine that provides 105 horsepower and emits less than 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer. For comparison, 1.6-liter TDCi diesel engine offered on the next generation Focus has a consumption of 4.2 liters per cent, the lowest in the segment of this cylinder capacity. As regards competition, Volkswagen has Golf BlueMotion that offers 105 hp and has an average consumption of 3.8 liters per cent. Opel has a version of the Astra ecoFLEX that is fitted with a 1.3-liter CDTI engine and 95 hp which consume, on average, 3.9 liters per cent.

Ford Focus ECOnetic engine comes with a new injection system and a special turbocharger. Besides these, Focus ECOnetic model comes with a stop-start, brake energy regeneration, low rolling resistance tires, a revised gearbox, a gear shift indicator and a system that automatically opened or closes front grille air vents reducing CO2 emissions by two percent, says Ford.

Future Ford Focus ECOnetic version will be offered in both five-door hatchback and the Wagon version. A possible model sedan with ECOnetic elements is not taken into account for now. The changes made to this model will raise the price compared to other diesel versions of the Focus, but the difference can be recovered over time through lower consumption and fuel.
