Official: The new Audi Q3

Audi released today the first information and pictures of the much anticipated Q3, the smallest member of the SUV line created in Ingolstadt. Audi Q3 came to fight BMW X1.


After weeks in which the impatience of fans was tempered only by the spy shots, teasers and sketches, Audi has decided to publish today the first Audi Q3 official pictures youngest of the current SUV range from the Germans.











Developed on the PQ35 platform of the current Volkswagen Tiguan, the new Audi Q3 measures 4.39 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and 1.60 meters high. Compared to his older Q5 brother, Q3 is 24 cm shorter, narrower by 5.3 cm and shorter by 5 cm. The overall dimensions will allow the model to carry five passengers and provide a trunk of 460 liters in normal conditions and 1365 liters with the seat folded down.

As expected, the design lines are part of the Audi brand philosophy, taking a number of elements from the Cross Coupe Quattro concept, unveiled in 2007 at the Shanghai Auto Show. The front is dominated by trapezoidal chrome grille, LED lights, the lights, sharp and unobtrusive, while the rear adopts a similar look found on the Q5, with a different design of the taillights. Aesthetic package can be filled with alloy wheels, whose sizes are between 16 and 19 inch.

Audi Q3 will be offered with two engines, a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine and a 2.0 TDI diesel. Both units will be available in several variants of power. The basic version of the TFSI powertrain will offer 170 horsepower, while the flagship will deliver 211 horsepower. The strongest Q3 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 230 km/h.

On the other hand, diesel fans will have to choose between a TDI of 144 hp and one 177 horsepower. The most economic alternative to diesel will be able to record an average consumption of 5.2 litres/100 km.

The full traction Quattro is optionally available on all versions, while the DSG seven reports transmission is only offered on units of 2.0 TFSI with 211 hp and 2.0 TDI with 177 hp.

The new Audi Q3 will be produced at the plant in Martorell, near Barcelona, owned by Seat. The compact crossover is seen as a lifeline by the Spaniards, that are hoping to revisit their financial situation. The first live appearance of the premium compact SUV will be held at the Shanghai Auto Show.
