Bangkok Airways is updating its image with its first new uniforms in 15 years.
The new look for Bangkok Airways is intended to project an image of greater youth and sophistication.
The makeover aims to project a younger, modern, vibrant and sophisticated look for the 1,200 front-line staff of the 43-year-old carrier known for conservatism in looks and management style.
The new look underscores its "boutique airline" brand positioning while continuing to reflect its colour identity with the shade of blue, said president Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth.
Staff in reservations, ground operations and inflight services will don the new uniforms starting in June and July.
Created by the celebrated designer Polpat Asavaprapha, the new uniforms will replace the iconic sea creature motifs that have adorned the blouses of female staff, with bright deep blue skirts.
The change also ushers in a new era for management now firmly in the hands of Capt Puttipong, who took over from his father and founder Dr Prasert.
Mr Polpat, who owns the Asava and ASV brands, said he drew his inspiration from the blue stripes on the aircraft.
"I then created a stripe pattern with shades of blue and turquoise. Silk-polyester fabric has been chosen to give a feeling of lightness and comfort to the person wearing it," he said.
"The uniform for men, in grey and blue with painted cobalt stripes on the shirt, emphasises luxury, a smart and informal look. This is to express the identity as a leisure airline."
The change will cost 15 million baht. Capt Puttipong expects the new uniforms to have a life cycle of five years.
