RATCHABURI SONGKRAN FESTIVAL

April 13 – 17, 2011/ 15.00 – 17.00

Woradet Road along the Mae Klong River in the Ratchburi provincial centre

Ratchaburi province stages a colourful Songkran celebration in more ways than one. To mark this Thai New Year — the Year of the Rabbit, residents of Ratchaburi province have added a creative new twist to the ancient tradition.

The scented water to be used in the ritual bathing and fun-filled water-splashing will be prepared from a selection of native Thai flowers and herbs typically used as ingredients in traditional Thai health and beauty preparations as well as in traditional Thai cuisine. These include fragrant flowers such as jasmine and White Champaka (champee), the indigo-coloured Butterfly Pea flowers (dawk anchan), fragrant green pandan leaves (bai toey), and orange-yellow turmeric (kamin).
