Volkswagen Up! – the series version

Volkswagen presents to Europeans its new town model three weeks before the Frankfurt Auto Show. The series version of Volkswagen Up! will be presented in Paris, an event exclusively for Volkswagen.


Volkswagen will launch the smallest model in its range later this summer. The model is born from the concept VW Up! Concept but will not be released at the Frankfurt Motor Show, as all European journalists expected, but in a special event which will take place in Paris on August 22.

Volkswagen Up! will be released, therefore three weeks before the most important auto show of the autumn, the German manufacturer preferring to draw attention to its model different than the other producers who launch their novelties at an Auto Show. The event will take place at the Grand Palais, on the banks of the Seine, Volkswagen announcing their claims thus directly in Paris, the capital of a country in which Class A models are highly appreciated.

The new Volkswagen Up! from the mini segment will be built at the plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, where it will be assembled, also, the future concern “brothers” that will carry Seat and Skoda logos. First appearance of the VW Up! city model will be the three-door, the five-door version will see the daylight later in 2012. Even later in 2013, Volkswagen will release a mini-monocab version of the model, also then will be scheduled the launch for the electric version. According to preliminary information from the auto market, the series version of VW Up! (which could be called VW Lupo) will receive immediately after the launch two three-cylinder engines: 1.0 of 60 hp and 1.2 TDI of 74 hp.
