Highlights - Alonso wins incident-packed British GP

Fernando Alonso is throwing caution to the wind as he bids to overhaul runaway leader Sebastian Vettel in the race for the Formula 1 title.

The Ferrari driver, winner of Sunday's British Grand Prix, is 92 points behind Vettel with nine of the 19 races gone.

Alonso said: "We have to be realistic because that is a very big gap.

"This will involve taking a few more risks, and maybe it will happen that we pay a high price for that, but there is no alternative."

Alonso's victory at Silverstone gave Ferrari their first win of 2011 after the Spaniard took advantage of a pit-stop problem for Vettel.

The German steered his Red Bull to second place, maintaining his record of not finishing outside the top two this season.

"This win won't change our approach to the coming races," said Alonso. "We will tackle the races one at a time, trying to win as many as possible.

"We are definitely not giving up, but we must not think about the championship. As [Ferrari president] Luca di Montezemolo said this week in Maranello, we are keeping our feet on the ground."

But after Sunday's triumph, Alonso is confident he has the car to push Red Bull all the way.

"There were definitely some major improvements," he said. "It feels much easier to drive now and you can feel it much more stuck to the ground than before, especially in the fast corners.

"That means it has more aerodynamic downforce, which was the area where we trailed our main rivals the most.

"We were quicker specifically at the part of the track where you practically don't have to brake, which means it is the actual car that is going well."
