Ferrari Challenge back at Spa for the European series

Maranello, 2 August – After a break of over two months since the round at Le Mans back in June, the European series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is back in action this weekend at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the first time since 2007, when the series was a curtain raiser to the famous 24 Hour race. No less than 37 cars are entered, with the action starting on Friday 5 August, with free practice, followed on Saturday by two qualifying sessions and Race 1 at 17.25. Race 2, run over 35 minutes then takes place on Sunday at 12.50.

Going into the Ardennes event, the main class of the Ferrari one-make series, which features the 458 Challenge car, is headed by Italy’s Max Blancardi (Motor/Malucelli) ahead of Russia’s Aleksander Skryabin and Alexey Vasiliev, both entered by Ferrari Moscow.

As for the Coppa Shell for gentleman drivers, the French duo of Jean-Marc Bachelier and Yannick Mallegol (Motor/Piacenza) top the classification ahead of the Danes, Dennis Andersen and Johnny Laursen of Formula Automobile, second and third respectively.

Austria’s Gerald Grohmann (Warm Up) has a comfortable lead among those running the F430 Challenge cars, ahead of the American Blank Howard (Motor/Piacenza) and Germany’s Holger Harmsen (Lueg Sportivo.)
