The Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung 2011 (IAA, English: International Automobile Exhibition), also known as the Frankfurt Motor Show at its 64th edition, has ended. Here are the TOP 10 SUVs presented in Germany.
BMW X5/X6 Exclusive Edition
BMW came to the Frankfurt Motor Show with a special edition of X5 and X6 SUVs. The special models are named Exclusive Edition. Among the changes we found new designed 20-inch wheels, also colored with a special black shade called Citrine. At the interior, customers will be pampered with wood insertions and Nevada leather sport seats. Together with BMW X5/X6 Exclusive Edition, BMW brings a revised version X5 xDrive30d equipped with Blue Performance technology. This technology will allow BMW X5 xDrive30d to meet pollution standards Euro6. Average consumption for this model is 7.5 l/100 km and the announced emissions are 198 g/km.
Chevrolet Colorado Rally Concept
Chevrolet Colorado Rally represents the project of a global pickup. Chevrolet wants to create a single model for all its markets. Colorado Rally is still a concept in the form it was presented in Frankfurt, but the production model will follow soon. Chevrolet Colorado Rally Concept will be powered by a 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine. The concept that was presented at IAA 2011 is a muscle variant designed to impress. The Pickup has an aggressive line and seems ready to tackle any surface! A pair of winches (one in front and one in the back) can help a man who manages to stuck Colorado Rally in mud. The interior is just as aggressive, the concept having sport seats with five-point safety belts. If the production version of Chevrolet Colorado Rally Concept will look the same, success in the United States is guaranteed!
Fiat Freemont 4×4
Fiat launches at Frankfurt Auto Show the 4-wheel-drive version of the Freemont model. The model with American origins will be available with 2.0 Multijet of 170 hp and 3.6 V6 Pentastar of 280 hp engines. Initially, this renamed Dodge Journey was offered only with front-wheel drive but now customers can opt for all-wheel drive with electronically controlled center differential. Fiat Freemont 4×4 will be available for sale starting in October 2011. The Multijet 170 hp engine was developed by Fiat while the V6 petrol engine is from Chrysler. The only gearbox available is a six-speed automatic. In 2012, Fiat wants to sell 33,000 Freemont units. The price for Fiat Freemont 4×4 starts at 24,900 Euros in Italy. Freemont is not a traditional SUV. It is rather a model located somewhere on the border between an MPV and a SUV because it has seven seats.
Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version
Infiniti celebrates the association with Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing by creating a special model dedicated to Sebastian Vettel, the reigning champion in Formula 1 and named, obviously, Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version.The Japanese luxury brand Infiniti invited Vettel to create a model as he wanted. The result was a specially modified Infiniti FX50 that was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Sebastian Vettel is a global ambassador for the Infiniti brand. He decided to remove the speed limiter the model that bears his name, thus achieving a top speed of 300 km/h (186.5 mph). The engine received 25 additional horsepower and sprints from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) only in 5.5 seconds. The sports suspensions were modified together with Red Bull Racing engineers. The front grille was redesigned and the spoiler was made from carbon fiber, resembling the wing of a Formula 1 car. The same spoiler integrates a set of LEDs that are used as daytime running lights.
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8
The most powerful Jeep comes to Frankfurt. Grand Cherokee SRT-8 will be an alternative to the powerful performing SUVs like Porsche Cayenne Turbo and BMW X5 M. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 will make 0-100km/h (0-60 mph) in just 4.8 seconds. For such a figure, the U.S. engineers have chosen a 6.4-liter V8 HEMI engine that develops 470 horsepower and 630 Nm. The power is transmitted to the wheels through an automatic gearbox. In order to have a decent autonomy, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 got a tank of 77 liters. Like any other Grand Cherokee, SRT-8 is equipped with Selec-Trac system that helps the driver to choose between Normal and Sport modes plus three other settings to run in off-road mode.
Maserati Kubang
Maserati unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show the Kubang concept, intended to foreshadow a series version of a new luxury SUV, developed on the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform. The Italian stand hosted the world premiere of Maserati Kubang SUV, a contemporary reinterpretation of the concept with the same name, introduced eight years ago. Under the bonnet of Maserati Kubang will be two already familiar engines for the public: a 4.7-liter V8 gasoline and a 3.0-liter diesel. Both units will be assisted by an automatic transmission with eight reports.
Mazda CX-5
Mazda comes at Frankfurt Motor Show with a new SUV named CX-5 (this is the younger brother of the more famous CX-7). The new Mazda CX-5 compact SUV launches a new design language for the Japanese manufacturer called Kodo. The new design puts more emphasis on the front side. The radiator grille has a new design and headlights are more aggressive. The Mazda CX-5 European version will receive a 2-liter gasoline engine and a 2.2-liter diesel engine available in two variants of power. All engines are part of the new Sky Active family of engines.
Mercedes-Benz ML
After a forced debut by a published brochure on the Internet before time, the new generation Mercedes-Benz ML SUV officially arrived at IAA. The new Mercedes-Benz ML-Klasse maintains the lines that made it famous and became like a bit “wiser” in terms of design. Under the bonnet we have novelties like the new four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that develops 204 hp from just 2.1 liters. This engine will power the ML250 CDI Bluetec version. A hybrid version of the new Mercedes-Benz ML will follow, which will be launched in 2012. The engine range includes the V6 and V8 engines. ML350 CDI Bluetec version will be equipped with the three-liter V6 diesel engine of 258 hp and 619 Nm. For those who prefer petrol engines, first one available is a 3.5-liter V6 of 306 hp and 370 Nm. We are looking forward to the AMG versions.
Peugeot 508 RXH
For Frankfurt, Peugeot prepared a cross version of the 508 SW model. Baptized Peugeot 508 RXH, the new model uses a hybrid propulsion system, diesel-electric called HYbrid4. It sends power to all four wheels at the same time managing not to pollute much, carbon dioxide emissions being only 109 g/km. Peugeot 508 RXH can run in the full electric mode. Thanks to the hybrid system, fuel consumption will be situated around 4.2 l/100 km. After its debut at Frankfurt Motor Show, the commercial launch of 508 RXH will take place in the spring of 2012. Peugeot 508 RXH will compete with Audi A4 Allroad.
Subaru XV
Subaru presented this new XV model as a concept at the Shanghai Auto Show. Subaru XV is part of the family of the redesigned Impreza model and is a compact crossover which will be integrated into the model range under Outback. The new Subaru XV is about 4.5 meters (14.5 feet)long and under the hood we find be a two-liter boxer engine associated with a CVT gearbox. There will be most likely a boxer diesel version. Commercial debut for the new Subaru XV SUV will take place in the first part of 2012.
