It’s time to bid some sad farewells. At the time of writing, technical director Sam Michael, account manager Richard Lavers and team electrician Paul Bray had just two hours left as employees of AT&T Williams. Guys, thanks for your efforts over the years; you’ll all be sorely missed. Even you, Lavers!
Sam Michael gave his final strategy briefing to the BBC commentators this morning. Eddie Jordan put in his first ever appearance, only to stand up halfway through and announce: “I thought you said this was going to be interesting!” He left without further ado…
Luciano Pavarotti and Marilyn Monroe look-alikes visited our Paddock Club yesterday. Today our guests had ‘Miss Elegant’ and ‘Miss Singapore Chinatown’ to contend with. Was it a step up? Well, at least they weren’t look-alikes!
These final flyaway races of the year mean the race team scarpers all over the world. Some people are returning to the UK for a week, while others are heading to Thailand for a week’s holiday ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix in two weeks time. “I don’t care where they go,” says team manager Dickie Stanford, “as long as they report for duty in Japan at the agreed time!”
