It’s the new Mercedes ML 63 AMG the performance version of the biggest SUV of the German brand, that will be presented Thursday at the LA Auto Show 2011.

Mercedes ML 63 AMG Engine
As expected since the release of Mercedes CLS AMG, the new Mercedes ML 63 AMG is getting rid of the “greedy” 6.3-liter V8 engine accompanying so far the most powerful version of the German SUV. This engine will be replaced by a 5.5-liter V8 unit capable of developing 520 horsepower and peak torque of 700 Nm.

This means that the new German engine is stronger and more economical than the unit it replaces: 15 hp and an improvement of no less than 33% of the average fuel efficiency, which now reaches 14.7 litres/100 km.

Moreover, the AMG Performance Package version from the new Mercedes ML 63 AMG reaches 550 hp and 760 Nm. The gearbox is an AMG Speedshift Plus 7, having three different programs of action: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M). Absolute novelty on such a model is the start-stop system that is automatically activated on the C module.

On the performance section, Mercedes ML 63 AMG has an acceleration of 4.7 seconds (4.6 with AMG Performance Package) for 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) and top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (156 mph).

“Like its predecessors, Mercedes ML 63 AMG sets new standards in terms of performance, the exclusive nature and experience behind the steering wheel. Plus the efficiency factor, which receives greater importance on the new ML 63 AMG. As inventors of the high performance SUVs, we remain attached to philosophy in 1999 introduced with the ML 55 AMG and which we continued it in 2007 with ML 63 AMG,” says Ola Källenius Mercedes-AMG GmbH President.
