Ecclestone: Latest breakaway threat is nonsense

Bernie Ecclestone has dismissed Luca Di Montezemolo's latest comments about forming a break away series to rival Formula One in the future.

The FOM rights holder branded the latest threats as 'nonsense', which doesn't come as a surprise considering the teams have threatened to do so on many occasions without following through, the latest of which happened in 2009.

"It's what he says every time he goes to Monza each year," Ecclestone told Reuters.

"'We need more money'. It's all nonsense. They're not going to break away. They've tried it all before.

"Luca's a lovely guy but he likes to say these things and then he forgets what he is saying."

Currently the teams receive 50% of the sports profits under the latest Concorde Agreement - due to expire in 2012 - however with negotiations ongoing behind the scenes for the next contract, the teams are seeking a bigger cut.
