Vettel hoping to see Di Resta in 2011

Sebastian Vettel has put his support behind Paul di Resta, as the Scot looks to secure a race seat for next season.

The current DTM champion performed the role of Force India test driver this year, and got a lot more track time than other test drivers.

However, di Resta is now looking to break into the sport in earnest, and Vettel has admitted that he would like to see di Resta on the grid next year.

"I hope to see you in F1 next year," Vettel said at a Mercedes DTM function.

"Hopefully [though,] it will not be as tight as it was in F3!"

The pair were team-mates at the ASM Formule 3 in the F3 Euroseries in 2006, with di Resta beating Vettel to the series title.

Vettel is not the only person who believes di Resta should get a chance in F1, with triple IndyCar Series Champion Dario Franchitti insisting that di Resta - who is his cousin - is even better than the young German.

"He definitely has the skills," the 37-year-old told Sport Bild. "He is one of the most talented drivers I've ever seen - he beat Vettel in the F3 Euroseries. Sebastian is a good driver, but Paul is better," Franchitti added.

It is believed that di Resta is competing with Tonio Liuzzi and Nico Hulkenberg for the second seat at Force India.
