FIA handed plans for US GP

The organizers of the US GP have submitted plans for the Austin race track which will host the race to the FIA.

All tracks must have their plans approved by the sport's governing body, and the Austin organisers have done so ahead of schedule.

"We are excited to submit the track design to the FIA for homologation design approval," said race promoter Tavo Hellmund.

"Our early submission is a true indicator of our ability to meet our slated opening in 2012. We look forward to approval and positive feedback from the FIA Circuit Commission which will meet in February to review our submission," he added.

With the experienced Hermann Tilke in charge of designing the track, Hellmund is confident that the process will be a smooth one, with all the correct boxes ticked.

"Tilke has done this a million times so they know what is needed, explained the American.

"It's all the civil engineering. It's a big book, a massive document. It's a blueprint for what the track is going to look like with all the cross-grading and everything."

FIA senate president Nick Craw met with Peter Wahl - an associate of Tilke's - and Hellmund in October and is quoted by the Austin American Statesma as saying: "I have a very high degree of confidence that they'll bless it [the plan]."
