USGP plans submitted ahead of deadline to FIA

The United States GP in Austin, Texas, is progressing well as the design team led by Hermann Tilke and organiser Tavo Hellmund submitted their track homologation plans ahead of schedule this week.

The plans were expected to be submitted in early 2011. Hellmund believes this proves their commitment to the project and is a 'true indicator of their ability to meet the 2012 debut.'

"With the submission of the homologation two months ahead of the deadline, this announcement is another confirmation that the construction of the world–class, multipurpose facility is right on schedule," read a statement.

Initial plans must be signed off and approved by the FIA to ensure the track and facilities meet the improved safety standards.

"We are excited to submit the track design to the FIA for homologation design approval," said Hellmund.

"Our early submission is a true indicator of our ability to meet our slated opening in 2012.

"We look forward to approval and positive feedback from the FIA Circuit Commission which will meet in February to review our submission," added the chairman of the race.
