Assange lawyer says seeking to raise bail cash

(Reuters) - A lawyer for WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange said on Tuesday it was impossible to say when he would be freed because his supporters were trying to raise 200,000 pounds ($317,400) needed as a condition of his bail.

"There is a problem because he's been granted bail on condition that 200,000 pounds cash is paid into this court here and that's an awful lot of money. It's a pity that he can't use Mastercard or Visa in order to assist him to arrange that," lawyer Mark Stephens told reporters.

Stephens said any appeal against bail by Swedish prosecutors would indicate that it was a "persecution and not a prosecution." Assange was arrested in London last week on allegations of sex crimes in Sweden.
