Ecclestone: No F1 grand prix for Rome

Bernie Ecclestone has ruled out Rome staging a Formula One grand prix, saying Italy "already has Monza."

Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno had hoped to add his city's name to the F1 schedule, envisioning a race around the streets of the capital.

However, La Repubblica claims that Ecclestone has rejected the proposal on the basis that Italy already has a Formula One grand prix.

The Italian newspaper reports that the F1 supremo has already written to Alemanno, stating that no country would play host to two grands prix in the future as he would rather F1 expand into new countries.
