GreenBkk Formula 1 | Lotus-Renault switch to British license

Lotus-Renault switch to British license

The Renault outfit will run under a British license for the 2011 season after linking up with the Lotus brand - historically seen as a British manufacturer despite its Malaysian ownership.

The news was announced at the Autosport show currently taking place this week.

The squad presently hold a French racing license, which means the French national anthem is played on the podium when the team win, with this change, the British anthem will now play if the Enstone based team manages to finish on the top step for the first time since Japan 2008.

"Lotus is an English manufacturer," team principal Eric Boullier told Autosport. "I have not announced this before, but we will be running under a British licence now.

"It means that if we win, we will play the British national anthem - and that is important for everybody inside the team. We are rebranding everything inside the company now."

This came after the team unveiled its final livery for the 2011 season.
