McLaren MP4-26 launch set for Feb 4th in Berlin

McLaren will officially launch their 2011 car, the MP4-26, in Berlin on February 4th, following the first test in Valencia which takes place between February 1st to 3rd.

They have become the fifth team to officially announce their launch date following Toro Rosso, Sauber, Force India and Renault, whilst Ferrari have confirmed their unveiling will take place in the final week of January.

The Woking-based outfit will follow a similar strategy adopted by Red Bull in 2009 which saw the 2010 championship winning team run their previous years chassis with some updates, giving them extra wind-tunnel time to tweak the final version.

McLaren will likely run an interim car at the Valencia test, a hybrid chassis based on the MP4-25 but with modifications planned for the 2011 car.

Force India, Hispania and Virgin all plan to do the same, although for different reasons, likely relating to budget and time constraints.
