Berger rules out team ownership
Gerhard Berger has ruled out the possibility of ever returning to Formula One as a team owner, saying the sport is too expensive.
Berger, who retired from F1 racing in 1997 having won 10 grands prix, has spent time in F1 management, taking the role of Competitions Director at BMW until 2003.
He also had a brief stint as a team boss when he bought half of Toro Rosso from Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz in 2006.
However, his time in charge did not last long as Berger sold his share back to Mateschitz in 2008.
The 51-year-old Austrian has now ruled out the possibility of a return to the F1 paddock as a team owner, citing the costs of competing in Formula One.
"With the conditions in Formula One today, there is not the opportunity," he told Auto Moto und Sport.
"I can't afford it.
"The sport has become too expensive and you cannot find the money that you need to do a good job on the open market."
