Australian GP retains 5pm start

Despite calls by the drivers last year to bring the race forward, this season's Australian GP will start at 5pm local time.

Last year, several drivers complained about poor visibility as the grand prix was not run under lights even though it took place when twilight was falling.

"By the end of the race it was certainly too dark and I understand the FIA has measured this and will take action for next year," Michael Schumacher said in the aftermath.

"But at least there seem to be some guidelines now as to what light conditions you have to have as a minimum for the future."

The drivers' complaints were not welcomed by Australian GP GP boss Ron Walker, who insisted it was "clearly not dangerous", adding that "a lot of drivers are prima donnas. They are never happy."

And it seems the FIA agrees with Walker, at least on the "not dangerous" part as they have confirmed that the Melbourne race will once again get underway at 5pm.

Motorsport's governing body also confirmed a 4pm start for the Malaysian GP while the Indian GP start time has yet to be decided.
