McLaren reveal the MP4-26

Fresh from the first round of pre-season testing in Valencia, McLaren have lifted the lid on their 2011 challenger, the MP4-26.

The car has some intriguing aspects, with a long flat high nose and high U-shaped sidepods (which got a special thumbs up from Hamilton).

The MP4-26 features an exhaust in the traditional mold, unlike the radical one presented by Renault on Tuesday.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were on hand in Berlin for the launch of the car and both drivers admitted they were impressed with the way the car had come together.

"I love it," said Hamilton.

"I've been here since 2007 and every year the car always looks beautiful. Evey year the car evolves with the new regulations and I think once again it looks great. Just the way the car is shaped I think it is carved better than any other car I've seen this year,"

Button echoed the sentiments of his team-mate.

"It looks beautiful and I'm looking forward to getting it out on the circuit next week where hopefully it won't be so cold," he laughed.

A confident Martin Whitmarsh believes that the combination of two great drivers and a talented design team put the team in good stead heading into the new season.

"With Lewis and Jenson, we have two of the most exciting, charismatic and high-profile personalities in the sport, and the whole team feels a powerful sense of responsibility to provide them with the very best machinery with which to showcase their very evident talents to the world," explained the team principal.

"The MP4-26 is the result of an incredible amount of hard work, innovative thinking and dynamic teamwork. Under the leadership of Paddy Lowe [technical director], Tim Goss [engineering director] and Neil Oatley [director of design and development programmes], our design department is more integrated than ever:

"While we're all hopeful of once more adding to our tremendous record in Formula One, this sport is so unpredictable and finely pitched at the moment that it's impossible accurately to forecast the state of play until the season starts next month. That's a tantalising prospect for Formula One's many millions of existing fans - and, I hope, something that will attract many millions more by the end of what looks set to be an absolutely fantastic year," he added.
