The new Lotus T128 has hit the track for the first time in Valencia.

The car, which was unveiled early on Monday morning, was the first to hit the track at 9.00am on Wednesday as the second day of group testing got underway. Lotus opted not to take part in the first day of testing, exchanging it for a private session on Friday.

The T128 features a Renault engine and a Red Bull gearbox and is a dramatic departure from last year's T127. However, the team has decided not to use KERS due to the difficulties of getting the system to work effectively. Lotus is aiming for points this year after failing to score in its debut season and has even targeted a seventh place finish in the constructors' chammpionship.

Kovalainen is at the wheel of the car today, with Jarno Trulli taking over on Thursday. Karun Chandhok is expected to be confirmed as a reserve driver later today after team boss Tony Fernandes posted a photo of him wearing a Lotus jacket on Wednesday.
