Suvarnabhumi Airport prepares to welcome passengers during the Chinese New Year

Suvarnabhumi Airport and the related authorities have prepared for the influx of passengers during the Chinese New Year, the number of which is estimated at 180,000 per day.

According to Suvarnbhumi Airport Spokesperson Wilaiwan Natwilai, the expected number of passengers at the airport during the Chinese New Year from February 1st to 13th, 2011 is around 2.3 million with an average of 180,000 passengers per day, which is the highest passenger traffic in the airport’s history.

To facilitate passenger journeys, the spokesperson said that the airport has cooperated with the related authorities including the immigration bureau, airlines, tourist police and entrepreneurs. The check-in counters of some airlines will be open for the check-in 3.5 to 6 hours in advance, while the more 20% of immigration officers will be on duty during the period. Moreover, special officers and Airport Ambassador will be ready to assist passengers and the staff will be actively coordinated to facilitate the passenger traffic flow.

Ms. Wilaiwan also said that seeing that most of the passengers during this period come in groups, the airport has coordinated with the Association of Travel Agents (ATTA) to inform passengers to arrive at the airport in advance in order to spare some time for the processes such as checking in, immigration process and security check during this busy period. The airport also appointed officers to specially assist tour group passengers in the processes.

Furthermore, the airport has set up special teams to provide 24 hour services to passengers and coordinated with the airlines, Immigration Bureau and the security department to ensure passengers’ convenience and safety. The securities measures will be applied strictly so passengers are requested to be prepared for the security checks and to be attentive to the airport’s regulations, especially the measure concerning liquid, gel and spray on board.
