Guitar legend set to rock City of Angels

Rock guitarist Slash of Guns N' Roses fame will be taking Bangkok by storm with his debut performance in Thailand at the Impact Exhibition Hall 2, Muang Thong Thani on March 10.

Rock and roll fans will be kept entertained by the legendary guitarist's self-titled solo album, Slash, as well as yesteryear hits from Guns N' Roses. The two-hour concert, which will start at 8pm, promises to keep rockers on their toes with past and present hits like Sweet Child O' Mine, Paradise City, Don't Cry, and November Rain, in addition to Ghost - featuring The Cult's Ian Astbury - a memorable opening riff and crunching rhythm section that also happens to be one of the highlights of his album.

A who's who of contemporary rock music also graces this single. Names worth mentioning include the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Kid Rock.

Aside from Guns N' Roses, the 46-year-old's illustrious career has included works with his own band, Slash's Snakepit, as well as two global hit albums with Velvet Revolver, a band that included former GNR bandmates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner, and Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland.

Slash - one of the most distinctive and in-demand guitarists of this era - had this to say about his latest endeavour.

"It was an honour to have all these guys on here. A few of them are heroes of mine from when I was younger. Lemmy [Ian Fraser Kilmister of Motorhead] was definitely one of the main ones for me growing up. Ozzy and Iggy and Lemmy...they all came to have a good time, but I was impressed that they were all really conscientious about doing a good job."

The avid guitar collector - who traces his love of music and adventurous spirit to his upbringing in Britain, where his father played an instrumental role in introducing him to the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones - points out that the album's tracks cover a wide range of emotions and styles.

For Crucify The Dead, Slash hooked up with Ozzy, who has a classically recognisable voice and uniform melodies in his songs which have his stamp on them but with some strong riffs.

One of the surprises for music reviewers was Fergie's appearance on Beautiful Dangerous, which many critics have given a thumbs-up, as she breaks out of her pop/rap comfort zone.

The track, Back From Cali, features vocals from Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. Myles has a wonderful voice which fits in with Slash's style of sleazy rock comfortably, and the intro riffs have that old classic rock touch about them as well.

Tickets cost 1,200 and 1,500 baht and are available at Thai Ticket Major outlets. Call 02-262-3456 or visit http://www.thaiticket major.com.
