A variable-tint glass roof is an option on the new SLK and goes under the name Magic Sky Control.
IN THE SHADE: Intelligent glass roof helps cut UV intensity and heat.
It uses an electrically charged condenser element to vary the amount of light able to pass through the glass. When the glass is subjected to an electrical charge, particles align to allow light to pass into the cabin. If the electrical charge is cut, the particles position themselves randomly to block some of the light.
In its darkest state of tint, Mercedes claims the amount of light entering the cabin is reduced by a factor of 20, reducing heat build-up and lowering UV intensity.
