International debut for the 458 Italia GT2 at the Sebring 12 Hours

Maranello, 18 March – This weekend sees the new 458 Italia GT2 make its much awaited debut at the famous Sebring 12 Hours race, the opening round of the prestigious American Le Mans Series and of the intercontinental Le Mans Cup.

With this car, the Risi Competizione team will try and match the extraordinary series of wins obtained by the F430 GTC over the past four runnings of this classic event. The new V8 sports car, based on the 458 Italia and developed by Ferrari in conjunction with Michelotto Automobili, picks up where the F430 GTC left off and on this occasion it will be driven by a crew consisting of Brazil’s Jaime Melo and the two Finns, Toni Vilander and Mika Salo.

Watching the 458 Italia GT2 on its maiden outing will be special guest, Ferrari managing director Amedeo Felisa, who arrives today in Sebring to witness this special event which also sees over eighty Ferrari owners taking part this evening in a parade that marks the opening of the race weekend prior to the actual start on Saturday at 10.30 local time.

Other cars entered in the GTE Pro category include the F430 GTC prepared by AF Corse and entrusted to the experienced Giancarlo Fisichella, Gianmaria Bruni and Pierre Kaffer, who will tackle the event looking to score as many championship points as possible. After this race in the United States, the AF Corse team will also swap its F430 for the new 458 Italia GT2, having only recently made its track debut with Fisichella and Bruni at the Le Mans Series official test day.

Debutto internazionale della 458 Italia GT2 alla 12 Ore di Sebring

Maranello, 18 marzo - Con la 12 Ore di Sebring, una delle gare di durata più affascinanti, valevole come primo round della prestigiosa American Le Mans Series e come appuntamento di apertura dell’Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, prenderà il via nel fine settimana la stagione agonistica 2011, caratterizzata dall’attesissimo debutto della nuova 458 Italia GT2.

Il team Risi Competizione cercherà, con questa vettura, di eguagliare la straordinaria serie di successi ottenuti dalla F430 GTC nelle ultime quattro edizioni di questa prestigiosa corsa. La nuova berlinetta V8, derivata dalla 458 Italia e sviluppata dalla stessa Ferrari in collaborazione con Michelotto Automobili, raccoglie così il testimone della F430 GTC, una delle vetture più vittoriose nella storia delle competizioni Granturismo e sarà affidata alla conduzione di un equipaggio di grande esperienza composto dal brasiliano Jaime Melo e dai finlandesi Toni Vilander e Mika Salo.

Il battesimo internazionale della 458 Italia GT2 avrà come testimone d’eccezione l’amministratore delegato della Ferrari, Amedeo Felisa, in arrivo a Sebring per assistere a questo speciale momento, mentre saranno oltre ottanta i clienti Ferrari che questa sera parteciperanno ad una speciale parata che segnerà l’apertura ufficiale del prestigioso evento agonistico che scatterà sabato alle 10.30 (ora locale).

Tra le vetture iscritte nella categoria GTE Pro, anche la F430 GTC preparata da AF Corse ed affidata all’esperienza di Giancarlo Fisichella, Gianmaria Bruni e Pierre Kaffer, che affrontano l’imminente prova con l’obiettivo di raccogliere più punti possibili in ottica di campionato. Dopo l’impegno statunitense, anche la F430 del team piacentino AF Corse sarà sostituita dalla nuova 458 Italia GT2, portata in pista pochi giorni fa da Fisichella e Bruni durante i test ufficiali della Le Mans Series.
