DOK KHUN SIANG KHAEN FESTIVAL

STICKY RICE WALKING STREET (Thanon Khao Neow), KHON KAEN PROVINCE

At Bueng Kaen Nakhon Cultural Centre and Si Chan Road (also known as Khao Neow Road), Khon Kaen

As part of the traditional Songkran Thai New Year merit-making ceremonies in Khon Kaen province, the locals perform bathing rituals to pay homage to revered Buddha images and shrines, present merit-making offerings to monks and pay respect to elders by making ritual offerings.

The rest of the Grand Songkran holidays are filled with festive fun with hours of friendly water-splashing, Miss Songkran beauty pageants and a variety of uptempo traditional Northeastern folk entertainment.

Activities

- Opening ceremony on 8 April at Beung Kaen Nakhon (Kaen Nakhon Lake), Si Chan Road
- Procession of floral carts
- Traditional ram wong circle dance
- Khao Neow Sticky Rice family day activities on 14 April
- Songkran water-splashing along Si Chan Road (Khao Neow Road)
- Walk through a 'water tunnel' as a row of water fountains spray consecrated lustral water that forms the tunnel. Not only is this considered an auspicious activity, the water spray keeps passers-by cool.
- Fun and games: Visitors are invited to form the longest human wave in the world.
