Special Report: PRD and 3rd Thai-Chinese Friendship Concert

Thailand and China have been in good alliance for centuries. The Thai-Chinese Friendship Concert is one of the activities arranged to assert the strong friendship, with both countries taking turns hosting the event. The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) will this year take Thai singers to perform at the third Thai-Chinese Friendship Concert 2011 which will be organized in Nanning, People’s Republic of China, on 3 March 2011.

According to Radio Thailand Executive Director Paitoon Hiranpradith, the concert will be jointly arranged by Radio Thailand, the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) or Channel 11, both broadcasting arms of the PRD, and the Guangxi Administration of Radio, Film and Television (GARFT). The concert will be broadcast live for both Thai and Chinese people, via radio and television stations in Guangxi as well as via Radio Thailand and the NBT.

The concert is arranged biennially under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Thai PRD and Chinese GARFT on 25 January 2007 in Guangxi, China. Under the agreement, the two sides have agreed to exchange radio and television programs and personnel as well as enhance economic, educational, cultural and tourism cooperation. Two friendship concerts had been organized so far. The latest one was held in Bangkok in September 2009 under the theme ‘Tài Zhōng Yǒuyì’ or ‘Thai-Chinese Friendship Concert’.

Thai artists joining this year’s concert are Mr Chaiyut Tosa-nga or ‘Pom Boy Thai’, a Silapathorn award-winning singer, in accompaniment of Kamlai band and Bangkok Xylophone band. The singer also composed a song ‘The King of Thailand’ in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, to be performed particularly in this concert. Other well-known Thai singers participating in the concert are winners from The Star singing contest such as Ms Witchayanee ‘Kam’ Piaklin and Mr Napat ‘Gun’ Injai-uer, as well as those from the KPN award, including Mr Thassapak ‘Bie’ Hsu and Ms Elizabeth ‘Rose’ Sitthijaroenyot.

In addition, dancers of Thai traditional arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwirot University will be performing in the concert. Mr Jirat ‘Jo’ Rintarawitoon, a Thai newscaster, who can also speak Mandarin, will be co-host of the event with a Chinese celebrity.

The concert promises to be a stunning event participated by famous Thai and Chinese singers and dancers. It will not only enhance the strong bonds between Thailand and China, but will also promote other aspects of cooperation.
