TAT: Chiang Mai Fest to create huge income ahead of Songkran

CHIANG MAI, 23 March 2011 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Chiang Mai Office expects the Chiang Mai Fest 2011 to help boost local tourism and generate 1 billion THB of income before the Songkran Festival.

Speaking of the tourism atmosphere in Chiang Mai, Mr Chalermsak Suranan, Director of the TAT Chiang Mai Office, expressed his satisfaction with tourism figures in the first quarter of this year, which improved from last year. The ratio of Thai to foreign tourists stands at 70:30 while the number of visitors to the northern province is expected to grow 10-15 percent throughout the year.

Mr Chalermsak commented on the Chiang Mai Fest 2011, to be held during 8-10 April at the Three Kings Monument Square and the Chiang Mai Art and Cultural Center, saying the event would persuade travelers to extend their stay for the Songkran Festival and in turn would further stimulate the tourism industry of the province. The Director projected that the festival would see a circulation of 1 billion THB with about 100,000 participants.

Arranged for the first time, the Chiang Mai Fest will feature art and handicrafts exhibitions, talent shows and musical and dance performances by numerous artists, both Thai and foreign. More information about the event can be obtained from the TAT Call Center at 1672.
