First Look: 2012 Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate

By Joe Lorio

New York City, more so than anywhere else in America, is the place where one is more likely to be driven than to drive. Thus, it’s probably the ideal place for the U.S. debut of the Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate, an ultra-luxe Range Rover that particularly caters to rear-seat riders.

Perched above the already-pricey Autobiography edition, the new Ultimate features individual, fixed rear seats with power recline, heating and cooling, and a massage function. In between is a console with a refrigerator box and a fold-out wood table. Two iPads are integrated into the front seatbacks. Power retracting steps help execs climb aboard. Liberal use of wood trim and ultra-soft leather (the latter even on the ceiling) further set the interior apart. Even the cargo area is unique, with teak wood on the cargo deck and the inside of the tailgate.

Production of the Ultimate is limited to only 500 worldwide, with 50 allocated for the United States. The range-topping Range Rover goes on sale this fall, at a range-topping price of $170,000.
