LMS – Clean sweep of the podium for Ferrari at Le Castellet

Maranello, 3 April – the 2011 Le Mans Series got off to a great start for Ferrari, who won the Le Castellet 1000 Kms. The six hour endurance race held at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit, saw victory in the LM GTE PRO class go to the 458 Italian GT2 entered by JMW Motorsport and crewed by the duo of Rob Bell and James Walker. The second step of the podium belonged to the new AF Corse V8 sports car, driven by Giancarlo Fisichella and Gimmi Bruni who, having started from pole were always front runners, crossing the line ahead of the Hankook Team Farnbacher 458 Italia GT2 of Farnbacher and Simonsen. The second AF Corse 458 Italia GT2 came fourth thanks to the efforts of Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander who, having also been a front runner for much of the race, missed out on a podium position because of a technical problem.

Antonello Coletta, head of Ferrari Corse Clienti was very pleased with the potential shown by the 458 Italia GT2 prepared by his department along with Michelotto Automobili. “We have started the season with our first pole and a first win, which shows our car is competitive enough to make its mark on a high level international competition like the Le Mans Series.”

Equally encouraging was the performance of the Maranello cars in the LM GTE AM category, with second, third and fourth places going to the AF Corse F430 GTC of Perazzini, Cioci and Lemeret, the Kessel Racing Ferrari crewed by Broniszewski-Peter and the CRS Racing crew of Hummel, Christidoulou, Quaife. The class was won by the Felbermayr Proton Porsche, which saw Ragginger, Ried and Long take turns at the wheel. The next round of the championship takes place over the weekend of 8 May on the legendary Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, which will also stage the second round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.

Maranello, 3 aprile – La stagione 2011 della Le Mans Series si aperta con un podio all’insegna dei colori della Ferrari conquistato nella 1000 km di Le Castellet. La lunga maratona di sei ore, disputata sul circuito Paul Ricard HTTT, ha regalato la vittoria di classe LM GTE PRO alla 458 Italia GT2 preparata da JMW Motorsport ed affidata al duo Rob Bell e James Walker. Secondo gradino del podio per la nuova berlinetta V8 di AF Corse condotta da Giancarlo Fisichella e Gimmi Bruni che, scattata dalla pole si è distinta tra le vetture di testa, tagliando il traguardo davanti alla 458 Italia GT2 della coppia Farnbacher e Simonsen (di Hankook Team Farnbacher). Quarto piazza per la seconda 458 Italia GT2 affidata dal team AF Corse all’esperienza di Jaime Melo e Toni Vilander che, dopo essere stata protagonista insieme alla vettura gemella di buona parte della gara, a causa di un problema tecnico, è rimasta esclusa dalla lotta al podio.

Positivo il bilancio del Responsabile del dipartimento Ferrari Corse Clienti, Antonello Coletta, molto soddisfatto delle potenzialità dimostrate dalla 458 Italia GT2 preparata dalla stessa Ferrari in collaborazione con Michelotto Automobili: “Abbiamo aperto la stagione conquistando la prima pole e la prima vittoria. Questo dimostra il livello di competitività delle nostre vetture in grado di lasciare il segno in una competizione di livello internazionale come la Le Mans Series”.

Altrettanto positiva la prestazione delle vetture della Casa di Maranello nella categoria LM GTE AM, dove la seconda, la terza e la quarta piazza sono state conquistate rispettivamente dalla F430 GTC di AF Corse condotta da Perazzini, Cioci e Lemeret, dalla Ferrari di Kessel Racing affidata a Broniszewski-Peter e da quella di CRS Racing (Hummel, Christidoulou, Quaife). La vittoria di classe è invece stata appannaggio della Porsche del team Felbermayr Proton sulla quale si sono alternati Ragginger, Ried e Long.

Il prossimo appuntamento con la serie è previsto nel fine settimana dell’ 8 maggio sul leggendario circuito belga di Spa – Francorchamps dove si disputerà anche il secondo appuntamento dell’Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
