Pazzini on Inter Channel

APPIANO GENTILE – "My celebration goes back to the Fiorentina days when I played alongside Luca Toni. He always used to make the 'ear gesture' at any time of day, be it at luchtime, or at dinnertime, meaning: "Hey, can you hear us?" And then mine came about as a result of that, meaning: "Hey, can you see us?", just for fun. People seemed to like it and I like it, too and that's why I've kept on doing it every time I score."

The background to his goal celebration was thus revealed in the preamble to the lengthy interview Giampaolo Pazzini gave to Nerazzurri fans when he answered their questions during Prima Serata, Thursday evening's exclusive weekly show on Inter Channel, which will be broadcast this evening at 21:00 on channel 232 of Sky.

Words spoken freely, with the usual ironic comments of Edoardo Caldara and Roberto Scarpini who didn't hesitate to remind Pazzini of various unpleasant moments during his first six months in an Inter shirt. "In my opinion," said the striker referring to the slump in the team's league results, "the team has put everything into getting back on track. From January on we had to win every match, even the difficult away games. We had been doing very well and when we should have been on top of everything we started to fade visibly. It was there to be seen in the match against Lecce, where we won but struggled to do so. Then came the international call-ups. I don't mean to say that we pulled out the plug, but I don't think there was enough time to recover our energies then we had those two matches in quick succession (AC Milan and Schalke 04) which destroyed us. Chatting with team-mates we asked each other where we had gone wrong, but I don't think the reason was the various lunches or dinners, but rather in the first half of the season: without needing a calculator we saw that in 8 or 9 matches we picked up 8 or 9 points from the 24 or 27 we could have,"
