GP2 first qualifying: second row for Bianchi with Rigon further back
Istanbul, 6 May – Romain Grosjean has taken the first pole position of the GP2 season, which gets underway at the Istanbul circuit alongside the fourth round of the Formula 1 World Championship. The Dams driver set a time of 1.34.398, beating Sport International’s Sam Bird (1.34.483) and Luca Filippi (1.34.709) in the Super Nova Racing car. The session was complicated by no less than three red flags and at the end, Jules Bianchi posted the fourth best time of 1.34.784 in his Lotus Art car. Davide Rigon will start from back in eighteenth slot in the Scuderia Coloni car, having lapped in 1.35.369. The two youngsters, both on the Maranello team’s books for work on car development, thus line up on the second and ninth rows of the grid for the first race of the weekend, which gets underway at 15.40 local time.
