FDA – Young talent on track at Misano for Italian F3
Maranello, 4 June – Today saw the first race in the second round of the Italian Formula 3 championship take place at Misano Adriatico. On the grid were two Ferrari Driver Academy students, Raffaele Marciello and Brandon Maisano.
For both men, the race was compromised by a difficult qualifying session, when Raffaele Marciello (Prema Power Team) set the seventh time, which did not live up to expectations, even if it guarantees the youngster will get the advantage of starting from the front row, just behind Eddie Cheever (eighth fastest) because of the rule that runs with an inverted grid for the second race. The Prema driver came home tenth in the end, after a bad start dropped him to fourteenth place after the opening corners. Starting ninth, Brandon Maisano (BVM Target) made up a place, crossing the line eighth, having run at a good pace, but far behind the leaders.
Victory in Race 1 at Misano went to pole man Edoardo Liberati (Team Ghinzani) who led from start to finish, taking the chequered flag with a comfortable lead of around three seconds over second placed Michael Lewis (Prema Power Team,) while the final podium placing went to Sergio Campana in the Dallara, who took third by passing team-mate Maxime Jousse in the closing stages.
The second and final race of the weekend takes place tomorrow at 10.10
