(ANOTHER) VICTORY FOR VETTEL (IN VALENCIA)

on Jun 26, 2011

While there wasn't the drama of Mark's 2010 aerobatics, we did get another Vettel victory in Valencia, this time made sweeter by Webber joining him on the podium, rather than having to visit the Medical Centre.

While Sebastian took pole, fastest lap and the win and made the whole thing look effortless, Mark had Ferraris in his wing mirrors and in his sights the whole race. Alonso and Massa had had the better start of our main rivals and made their presence felt throughout the race.

Detractors will speak of a dull race. And while it was no Montreal (and there may never be another) and while Sebastian admitted it "might have been boring to watch" both our drivers were pleased with their afternoon. And not just the result. Sebastian said he really enjoyed the race, while Mark's trip to the podium crowned "one of the best races of the year."

Credit too, once more, to our pit crew. In the heat of battle, not to mention the Spanish sun, they didn't put a wheel gun wrong. It's just one more crucial area which the drivers can rely on to ensure we secure those podiums.

From the pitwall, our team principal considered it a 'fantastic team performance', and there was good cause for celebration. Christian said: "First and third meant a lot of points today. It was a tight race with Fernando, both our drivers had good starts running one and two initially, then Fernando was able to use the DRS to get ahead of Mark. Mark managed to get back past him through pit stop strategy and then stay ahead, as it evolved into a three-stop race.

"Unfortunately at the last round we just didn’t have enough to stay ahead of Alonso with Mark to get the one-two. Sebastian drove another immaculate race and has consolidated his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. It was another great haul of points today for the team and it was great to have Mr Mateschitz here to see the Red Bull cars both on the podium.”

His win is Spain means Sebastian has now recorded more victories than last season. He extends his lead to 77 points in the Drivers' Championship with Mark moving up to second - equal with Jenson Button. Their combined efforts mean Red Bull Racing extends its lead over McLaren in the Constructors' to 89 points.

We now set off back for the Factory's home race where we haven't done too badly in the past couple of seasons. Roll on Silverstone.
