Tyre trivia - Pirelli’s debut season in numbers
You don’t need to be a number-crunching statistics fan to appreciate how successful Pirelli’s debut season as Formula One racing’s official tyre supplier has been. The impact the Italian manufacturer has had on the sport has been pretty clear throughout this year’s 19 Grand Prix weekends. But sometimes a healthy dose of facts and figures can press a point home.
Did you know, for example, that the highest speed reached by a Pirelli tyre in 2011 was 349.2 km/h, which was set by Sauber’s Sergio Perez during qualifying at Monza; or that 10,200 kilogrammes of rubber was deposited on tracks during this season? And that’s just for starters…
Tyres
- Total number of tyres provided for the season (dry and wets): race tyres: 24,000 dry tyres; 4,600 wet tyres plus an additional 6,000 for the tests- Total number of tyres used: dry tyres: 21,100; wet tyres: 2,900
