iWitness in Germany: Sunday

If you haven’t had any dramas during qualifying, the parc fermé rules allow teams to get away from the racetrack early on Saturday evenings. AT&T Williams were away by 1830 last night and, once back at the hotel, a table football tournament ensued. Any guesses as to the best player? Yep, it was team manager Dickie Stanford! Misspent youth, Dickie?
There was no chance of an early bath this evening, however. As soon as the German Grand Prix ended, the team worked flat-out to dismantle the pit garage and the motorhome and get on the road to Budapest. The FW33s will be prepped for next weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix upon arrival at the Hungaroring on Tuesday.
There was something missing from McLaren’s victory celebrations today. Can you guess what it was? There was no celebratory team photograph (de rigueur, surely? - ed), due to Lewis and Jenson heading straight to the airport after the race. It’s true that everyone in F1 is in a rush all of the time.
Watching Fernando Alonso hitch a ride back to the pits on the side of Mark Webber’s Red Bull after the race brought back fond memories at AT&T Williams. Remember Silverstone ’91, when Nigel Mansell gave Ayrton Senna a lift? Webber claims he was worried that Fernando would squash his wing mirror!
