EXCLUSIVE CHAT WITH JEROME 6 DAYS BEFORE SPA WEEKEND

20 Aug 2011

This summer break before the Jerome’s home GP was the perfect time to have a private chat with him before a weekend he will always remember.

Jerome, do you realize now you are a F1 driver?

"Yeah, I am feeling good in this new life for me. It is a crazy world and the most important thing for me is to learn and to store up a maximum of information. Experience is the key and I cannot wait to be next week in Francorchamps to meet the fans for my first race as a F1 driver in Belgium. Since the beginning of the season, I can see sometimes some Belgian flags around the track and it is a very nice feeling. I am very proud to represent my country all over the world."

Explain us what did you do during the summer break?

"The day after Hungaroring I went for one week in South of France enjoying some relaxing days with my family and friends and I enjoyed making some bike rides in this region where you have a lot of “cols”. Maybe I could be a good teammate for Andy & Frank Schleck for next Tour de France… (laugh). Since I came back in Belgium, I am making a lot of PR and press events before the Spa GP and it is a pleasure to prepare this race."

What is your best souvenir of the first part of the 2011 season?

"For sure, it is the race in Canada because of all the changes we had on track. It was crazy and we never knew where we were exactly. It is also one of the best results of the team this season and it is an important thing for me."

What could be the worst souvenir of this first half of the season?

"(Long time of silence…) It could be weird but it is also in Canada but just after the qualifying session because I was outside the 107% rule and I was not sure to be on the grid the day after. This result was due to my crash the day before the quallies and the team had to work all night long to repair the car. It was a major work for them and we had not time to adjust all my personal settings. Fortunately, the race was awesome and I forgot this hard time."

What is the result of your dream for the next race in Francorchamps?

"To win…(laugh…)… no, seriously, it is a special race for me but my mission is still the same than for the other GP. I have to do my best and I will try to make the best performance I can and trying to be very close Timo or before him."

What are the 2 words to define your feeling just before your first F1 GP?

"Hum… Excitation and proudness… but after few minute you just have to focus completely on your job because your concentration needs to be very high and there are a lot of things to learn in a very short time."

What is the first thing you will do just after the final GP of the season in Brazil?

"Enjoying some free time in Brazil, maybe to visit this wonderful country and I really hope to be back to work very quickly to prepare next season."

Where will you be in 2012?

"If you can tell me, I will be very happy for your help… (laugh)… I have a management which is dealing this part and my personal target is to perform the best I can this year to be in F1 next year. I will fight until the last race to be there in 2012 anyway."

A last question about the media: what is the weirdest question you had during interviews since the beginning of the season?

“When was your first time?”… I did not answer to this question because it is very private and it was completely outside of the interview scope… Very strange question…"

The final words for your fans:

"I would like to thank all of you for your support messages through Facebook, Twitter etc… It is very motivating for me to feel this support everywhere. I will do my best and I really hope to see you in Spa…"
