FDA drivers out to conquer Mugello

Next weekend will be very important for Raffaele Marciello and Brandon Maisano. The two Ferrari Driver Academy students will be taking to the track at Mugello, for the penultimate round of the Italian Formula 3 Championship.

Maisano is currently second in the classification, thirteen points off the leader, while Marciello is just behind his French colleague, two points adrift. Despite this being their first year in the category, Brandon and Raffaele are both right in the hunt for the title itself, as well as the prize for the best newcomer. In the two remaining rounds, at Mugello and Monza, there are still 72 points up for grabs.

Last week, the Italian Formula 3 series field was out on the Tuscan circuit for a test session and Maisano and Marciello found it very useful. “We got through a lot of work,” explained Raffaele. “So I’m keen to start the Mugello weekend and I’m very optimistic about my chances. I like the track a lot and the test went extremely well and, as usual, I don’t feel under any pressure. I don’t want to make any predictions, but I’ve got a feeling it could go really well.”

“The work we did at the test was very useful,” commented the head of the FDA, Luca Baldisserri. “Marciello learned a lot from a long programme based on car set-up. As for Maisano, free practice prior to qualifying will be very important for him, as he did not have a great feeling from the car.”

The Mugello weekend features one race on Saturday and the second on Sunday.
