Middle East tour

Beirut, 4 September – Scuderia Ferrari development driver Giancarlo Fisichella has just completed a series of Philip Morris International events in the Middle East, aiming at bringing Formula 1 to a wider audience, specifically in areas with little previous motor sport involvement. The trip started in Eilat in Israel and then moved to Beirut in Lebanon, with Fisichella talking about his past experience as a Formula 1 driver and his current duties, racing in the GT championship at the wheel of a Ferrari 458 Italia. “It was an unforgettable experience,” said the Italian driver on his way home. “It is always interesting seeing different cultures and it’s possibly one of the best aspects of the job of a racing driver. It was an unforgettable experience seeing the reaction of people who do not know this sport and have never seen a Formula 1 car either close up or even on television and who live in places that sadly have all too often been the scene of sad events. I was struck by the curiosity people had in the simulator the organisers had on hand: it only took a few demonstration laps and a bit of advice to generate a level of enthusiasm that will be hard to forget.”
