Ferrari Challenge Italia preparing for Finals at Mugello

Maranello, 19 September – This coming weekend, the Italian series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will be in action at the Mugello circuit for the penultimate round of the season, which will provide drivers with useful experience for the much awaited Ferrari World Finals, the event that traditionally brings the curtain down on the Corse Clienti’s racing year at the very same circuit in Tuscany over the weekend of 6 November.

The 458 and F430 Challenge cars competing in the Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell categories will be on track starting Saturday with free practice and qualifying. The two races run with separate classifications for each category take place on Sunday.

Also on the card, a few track sessions for Ferrari owners to take their own cars on track as part of the “Excitement on track” special programme, which means the crowd get to admire at close quarters, various examples of the breed.

Going into the event, the fight is still open in all three categories: leading the Trofeo Pirelli classification is Stefano Gai (Rossocorsa) on 98 points, followed by Lorenzo Bontempelli (Kessel Racing) on 87 and Dario Caso (CDP) on 77. Currently heading the Coppa Shell is Benedetto Marti (Motor/Piacenza,) best of the gentleman drivers with a 19 point lead over team-mate Emilio Rossi and 28 over Mario Molteni (Rossocorsa.) Of those racing the F430 Challenge, Andrea Belluzzi (Motor/Modena) is on top with 100 points, followed by Sossio del Prete (CDP) on 73, with Roberto Ragazzi (Ineco/RAM) third on 58.

The two races from the Italian series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will be shown live by Sky, on Sunday at 9.25 (Race 1) and 14.25 (Race 2.)
