CAUTION: LOW-FLYING F1 DRIVERS
Sep 22, 2011
A successful Formula One driver should always have his feet on the ground, at least metaphorically speaking, but our two drivers ignored that rule on Wednesday night.
Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari went down to Singapore’s famous Sentosa Beach to try their hand at skydiving at the iFly facility.
Before you start thinking this might be a dangerous pastime to try just days before a grand prix, the whole experience actually took place in a wind chamber and no jumping out of planes was involved.
After a briefing as to how to position their bodies, the drivers took turns in the chamber with the instructor and they were soon flying high.
"It was a super experience and the first time I’d done it,” commented Buemi. “Too be honest, it was a bit scary at first. The tiniest movement can make you shoot up or down, just bend your legs, which reduces your surface area and you drop like a stone. Now, I’d like to try it for real from a plane, but I don’t think my contract with the team would allow it!”
Getting high is obviously a top priority for F1 drivers, as Michael Schumacher and Timo Glock were also spotted trying out the iFly.
