QUIZZING THE WORLD CHAMP

by redbullracing.com, Oct 13, 2011

Thursday in Korea meant another appearance at the FIA press conference for Sebastian, although this time it was – pleasantly - as the 2011 world champion.

Sitting with him were previous winners Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, but the talk centred on Vettel, his title victory and what he sang at the karaoke bar on Sunday (Beatles and Sinatra). Firstly he was quizzed on the days between Suzuka and Mokpo.

He said he’d had a busy Sunday night celebrating with the team and Michael Schumacher (they had a couple of drinks together) before travelling to Tokyo for the Infiniti event, and to meet fans on Monday before arriving in Korea yesterday.

Had the fact that he was world champion sunk in yet? “This year we led from start to finish so it is different to 2010. Even though it was likely, we always tried to focus on that particular race. When I crossed the line, we knew we could have done a bit better, we got beaten by Jenson and Fernando. We would have loved to win, but we are out again this weekend and try to get another win. The championship is decided bit it doesn’t change anything to our approach really.”

Thoughts now turn to tomorrow and the start of the next round. He was asked if he had seen any change in the circuit since last year. “There hasn’t been a lot going on since we left,” said Seb. “They’ve made some changes, for instance, at the last corner they moved the wall so it’s a little bit better to see, a bit easier for us. The pit entry becomes a bit more visible - things that were a little bit borderline last year are better this year but other than that… it looked unchanged in many ways. I don’t know how much racing has been going on, so we will see a lot of track improvement throughout the weekend.”

And that all starts at 10am tomorrow.
