Difficult race for Sergio “Checo” Pérez in Korea, P16 finish

Yeongam, South Korea, October 16, 2011 – Sergio “Checo” Pérez faced a quite difficult race at the Yeongam circuit during the 16th round of the F1 World Championship. Unfortunately he had to pit during the last lap with a damaged tire, the front right tire, finishing the Korean Grand Prix P16.
Despite all the effort the Sauber C30-Ferrari #17 driver put today he couldn’t do more. He had done his first pit stop in lap 16 taking advantage of a safety car after he had done a pretty good stint; he got back in P13 and with new tires.
Lap 35, of 55 agreed, marked Sergio’s best position, ninth, and he pitted again for fresh new set of tires, which didn’t last for the end of the race, neither Kamui Kobayashi’s, having to pit for the third time and getting back to track again in P13.
Sergio was 12th when he pitted because his front right tire was damaged, it practically had a hole. It was the last lap when he went back to track in P16, position in which he finished the race.
“Initially my start was pretty good. In the beginning with the soft tires it was quite good, but then with the supersoft tires I struggled. I had to pit and change them before the end of the race because the front right tire had a hole in it. It was a shame, but I lost valuable time there and positions. I think the tire strategy this time was wrong but we must analyze this all over again”. Mentioned Sergio after the race.

Yeongam, Corea del Sur, 16 de octubre del 2011.- Muy difícil carrera enfrentó el piloto mexicano Sergio “Checo” Pérez en el circuito de Yeongam: en la última vuelta tuvo que ir a pits por una llanta muy dañada -la delantera derecha- cerrando el Gran Premio de Corea en el puesto 16.
Pese al esfuerzo del piloto del Sauber C30-Ferrari #17, la competencia no le ha dado para más, pese a que luego de su primera detención en los pits (en el giro 16 y aprovechando la presencia del safety car tras un buen “stint”), el mexicano se reincorporó a la pista en el lugar 13, ya con neumáticos frescos.
La vuelta 35, de las 55 pactadas, marcó la mejor posición de carrera para Sergio Pérez, noveno y una vuelta adelante nuevamente “Checo” se fue a pits por un set de llantas frescas, las cuales no le alcanzarían para terminar la carrera. Ni a él ni a su coequipero Kamui Kobayashi, quienes hicieron 3 paradas. Checo se reincorporaba en la P13.
Así, cuando faltaba una vuelta y marchaba en la decimosegunda posición, Checo fue a los pits para cambiar el neumático delantero derecho, el que prácticamente tenía un hoyo. Regresaría al circuito para cerrar la competencia en el puesto 16.
“La carrera pintaba bien al principio, pero casi al final tuve un problema con el neumático delantero derecho: estaba sumamente degradado, casi con un hoyo y no pude continuar más. Me fui a los pits para recambiar esa llanta y ahí perdí un gran tiempo. Creo que la estrategia de los neumáticos no ha sido la adecuada, pero tenemos que analizar bien todas las cosas”, dijo Sergio.
