Good Evening

by www.redbullracing.com, Nov 12, 2011

Qualifying in Abu Dhabi today was no less intense than usual, with Sebastian just clinching pole with seconds to spare and Mark securing the P4 spot.

Our drivers were split by the McLaren duo, as Hamilton and Button took P2 and P3 respectively. The top 10 is completed by Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Nico Rosberg, Michael Schumacher, Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta.

Todays' session was again tinged with an extra special feeling as Sebastian equalled Nigel Mansell's record of the highest number of poles in a season.

Sebastian said of this achievement: "I’m very pleased with the pole and it’s a very special one to equal Nigel Mansell as well. It’s a fantastic year and it’s not over yet, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Sebastian's Race Engineer, Rocky captured the moment on the Team Radio with the simple yet effective words, "Good Evening Mr Mansell", reflecting his pleasure at joining Nigel with the 14 pole feat.

Of his fourth place, Mark said, "We had to communicate more than normal during the out lap due to a few things we were managing, so that affected the prep a little. I’m disappointed as there is certainly more there." And in regards to tomorrow's race he continued, "It will be an interesting first sector, then we'll get into the race from there. I think this track is traditionally pretty hard to pass on, so it's likely to be down to the DRS zone and pit stops.”

Christian reminded us of the similarities between Mansell's record and Sebastian's, saying, "It’s a remarkable achievement for him to equal Nigel Mansell’s 14 poles in a single season, which by coincidence also happened to be achieved in an Adrian Newey-designed car back in 1992, with a Renault engine."

He also paid homage to Mark's achievement: "In such a tight qualifying session, it all came down to the final run and Mark in P4 was only two tenths off the front row; it demonstrates just how tight it is this weekend. I’m sure we’re set for a really exciting race tomorrow.”

So we leave the track happy this evening but still aware there's everything to race for in tomorrow's twilight competition.

Join us for it at 5pm local time.
