Brazilian Grand Prix: Front Of The Grid (Again)

Nov 26, 2011

The team has - like everyone else who drives at Interlagos - had its ups and downs here: from DC's final first corner collision on his 2008 retirement to our Constructors' title win here last season. But Saturdays don't get much better than today.

We've wrapped up both titles and the two men who achieved it have demonstrated there's no lifting in Sao Paulo. We're still out to squeeze everything we possibly can out of every race.

In Sebastian's case this was knocking Brit Nigel Mansell off his poles-in-a-season pedestal, Vettel now can say he's had more P1s in a single season than any other driver.

Beside him is the man who not only took two of the other three poles in 2011 and the man who ensured we took the Constructors' title, but also has taken more fastest laps than anyone else this year.

So our team principal is rightly proud, having witnessed another emphatic domination of a Formula One Saturday afternoon. Christian said: “An awesome achievement by Sebastian and the team today. It’s a small piece of history for Sebastian and is thoroughly deserved. He shared the record with Nigel for two weeks and he now has some fairly illustrious names behind him, so a great performance. A great performance also from Mark Webber today to lock out the front row ahead of what I’m sure will be a really exciting final grand prix of 2011.”

The world champion himself? He again recognised there's still a race to run in Brazil, but he was more than content with today's outcome. Sebastian said: "It’s been an incredible year for us and an incredible journey and it’s not yet over, we’ve got another chapter tomorrow and I’m very happy. It’s hard to believe. I didn’t feel that happy yesterday, but this morning I was much happier with the car and how it felt, it was much more to my liking and I was able to go from there and improve to get the pole."

And his team-mate Webber had one eye on that unpredictable Sao Paulo weather. Mark said: "It was a good session today and we know there’s going to be some weather coming in, which will mix things up a bit. That’s very good for the people at home watching on TV, but it means a few grey hairs for us sitting in the cockpit. I’m looking forward to the race, it’s a good challenge here and it would be great to finish the season with a good result.”

We could not agree more...
